CSVOn Chad's Population Composition
Chad's Population Pyramid and Demographic Statistical Analysis
Chad's population composition exhibits a typical "young-type pyramid," with particularly pronounced young population structure among African nations. While the younger population (0-14 years) accounts for approximately 47% of the total, the elderly population (65 years and above) constitutes merely about 3%. This pyramid has a broad base that narrows rapidly toward the top, reflecting extremely high birth rates and a young median age.
The most distinctive feature of Chad's demographic dynamics is the coexistence of extremely high birth rates (total fertility rate of approximately 6.3) and relatively high mortality rates. Inadequate medical infrastructure and poverty result in persistently high levels of infant and maternal mortality. However, since births far exceed deaths, the population is growing rapidly, placing Chad in the early stages of a "demographic bonus."
Such population structure creates serious challenges for society and economy. Employment opportunities cannot keep pace with the rapidly expanding labor force, resulting in widespread unemployment and underemployment. Demand for education, healthcare, and food increases sharply, making it difficult to respond within limited national budgets. Simultaneously, if the young population can be converted into productive human resources, it holds potential as an important driver of economic growth, and current education and employment policies are at a critical juncture determining the nation's development.
