CSVArgentina's Population Composition
Explanation of Argentina's Population Pyramid
Argentina's population composition is in a stage of transition from "mature type" to "aging type," particularly among Latin American countries. The shape of the pyramid is gradually changing from an inverted triangle to a barrel shape, reflecting a decline in fertility rates and an extension in life expectancy. In particular, the working-age population (15-64 years old) is relatively thick, and the proportion of elderly people (65 years and over) is at a comparatively high level of 11-12%.
From a demographic perspective, Argentina has already passed the demographic dividend stage and is entering the initial phase of declining birth rates and aging populations. The total fertility rate is around 2.2, which is relatively low among Latin American countries, and is expected to decline further in the future. Meanwhile, advances in medical technology and improvements in living standards have led to a rapid increase in the elderly population.
Such changes in population structure have significant impacts on Argentina's society and economy. The relative decline in the working population may become a drag on economic growth. Additionally, increased pressure on social security systems, including pensions and healthcare, is a concern for government finances. At the same time, decreased supply of high-quality labor necessitates strengthened investment in human capital to maintain industrial competitiveness.
