Headline PCE Inflation (YoY) is a New York Fed measure of underlying inflation built from multiple price series. It is designed to smooth noisy monthly moves and isolate persistent inflation pressure.

Headline CPI and even core measures can jump around because of energy, seasonality or one-off factors. MCT is more useful when the question is whether inflation persistence is truly easing.

It is best read together with policy rates, wages and housing-related inflation to judge whether disinflation is broad or only temporary.
