CSVPopulation Composition of Bahrain
Bahrain population pyramid explained
Bahrain exhibits a typical youth-heavy population structure within the Middle East region. Approximately 30-35% of the total population consists of children under 15 years old, while the working-age population (15-64 years) accounts for approximately 65%, a very high proportion. This represents a characteristic pattern of a country in the developmental stage transitioning from developing to middle-income status.
From a demographic perspective, Bahrain is currently in the "demographic dividend" phase. Birth rate decline has not yet progressed sufficiently, and the advantage lies in having a large productive-age population available as labor. However, birth rates show a gradual declining trend, with predictions that aging will accelerate over the next 15-20 years.
In social and economic terms, this youth population composition presents both advantages and challenges. Positively, the supply of energetic labor provides high economic growth potential and strengthens national defense capacity. Conversely, demand for education, employment, and healthcare surges, increasing government expenditure burdens. In particular, unemployment rate management and youth employment creation have become critical issues, making economic diversification an urgent priority.
Whether Bahrain can maximize its demographic dividend depends on future economic policies and social investments.
