The United Kingdom is a high-income country with the world's fifth-largest economy, with financial and service industries centered in London forming the core of the economy. The total GDP stands at approximately 2.8 trillion dollars, with the tertiary sector accounting for over 80% of GDP. The financial sector, professional services, and information and communications industries are particularly competitive internationally, with the City of London maintaining its position as a global financial center.

In terms of economic structure, the service sector is overwhelmingly important, while tourism is also a major industry welcoming millions of visitors annually. Conversely, the UK's former position as a manufacturing hub has relatively declined, and now specializes in high-value-added manufacturing such as aerospace and chemical industries.
