OECD Export Volume

About OECD Export Volume

OECD merchandise exports (OECD Merchandise Exports) is an indicator that measures the total value of goods exported from countries that are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in USD (US dollars). This indicator is limited to the export of physical goods and does not include service exports. It is an aggregate of the value of exported goods from industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, and resource extraction in OECD member countries.

There are multiple reasons why this indicator is important. First, OECD member countries account for approximately 60-70% of the global economy, and the export volumes of these countries reflect an important indicator of overall global economic health. Second, export volumes are closely related to each country's manufacturing competitiveness, employment situation, and economic growth outlook. Third, by measuring the level of international trade activity, it is possible to grasp trends in global supply chains and business sentiment.

As a general trend, OECD export volumes show strong correlation with economic cycles. Exports increase during economic expansion phases and decline during recessions. During the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, export volumes dropped significantly. Recently, the rise of protectionist trade policies, supply chain disruptions, and inflationary pressures have affected export volumes. Rising geopolitical risks also impact this indicator, requiring continuous monitoring.
